Rock Crusher Repair

Both damaged covers of the rock crasher's engine are removed. The engine compartment containing the engine and its components is clearly visible The blue color side walls have grooves for cover engagement. The huge size of this machine allows to put in perspective sizes of the covers.

The rock crusher repair has involved mobile welding service for installation of parts and welding in place variety of components as well as shop service for fabrication of engine compartment covers. As we are known for welding on heavy equipment in London, the client has called us to conduct this repair. This mobile rock crasher was one of the bigger ones we have seen. The machine has sustained damages in variety of areas due to excavator impact from the top and long time neglect.

The sectional engine cover of this rock crusher has 1.5" and the cover can not be closed. The gap between the left side wall and the bottom section of the cover is 1.5"
The sectional engine cover of this rock crusher has 1.5″ misalignment and the cover can not close.

The rock crasher’s engine compartment covers have sustained severe dents. The covers’ dents and misalignment have caused difficulties to close the covers or to open them. The cooling ventilation cover that supposed to be open during the operation has been jammed. Additionally, the step ladder has broken positioner that made climbing on top of this rock crasher’s deck very difficult. And, the entrance gate of the deck has been missing. Therefore, the safety inspector has declared the operation of this rock crasher as unsafe.

The crashing wheel has sustained relatively minor damage and it has needed some touchups. However, the plan was to treat the repair of crushing wheel as a minor repair since the client has already scheduled the major reconditioning next year.

Rock crusher’s compartment engine covers.

As mentioning above the engine two covers has sustained severe damages due to impact from above and they ware severely dented. The main sectional cover was very heavy and two workers had to combine their efforts to open it. The structural compartments of the machine were repositioned and misaligned for about 1.5 inch. This misalignment has caused inability to close the cover.

In this case we have decided to partially recondition the sectional cover using the material of the same thicknesses. We also have installed 200lb lifters to help lift this cover to open position as our goal was to reduce the load. Our goal was to reduce the load as much as possible to allow for one worker to be able to lift the cover with one hand. Moreover, we have decided to replace the hinges joining the two sections. The replacement of hinges has improved the alignment during closing as we couldn’t improve the structural alignment of the whole machine.

The front sectional engine cover of this machine is in open position and it is supported by two lifters. The lifters are in black color. The lifters allow to lift the whole sectional cover with just one hand.

The air cooling vent cover has sustained damaged edges. Additionally, It has required also some kind of latching mechanism to keep it open during windy weather. After straightening the edges of the vent cover and installation of latching mechanism the cover has been ready for use.

The open vent cover of the rock crusher with installed new support that prohibits its closure in windy condition. Such stabilization disallows the damage of the cover's hinges.

At the end we have painted the two covers in original color.

Ladder repair

The ladder of this rock crasher has had broken its positioner and has got a few missing steps. Therefore, the safety inspector has declared it as unsafe to use. The ladder’s positioner suppose to maintain the proper and more comfortable angle when climbing on top of the machine’s deck. When trying to climb the ladder without engaged positioner the climbing was much more difficult especially if muddy boots.

The ladder positioner is welded to the ladder and will maintain the proper climbing angle for the ladder. The properly installed positioner not only makes climbing easier but also eliminates tripping hazard.
We have welded the ladder positioner to the ladder to maintain the proper climbing angle.

Prior welding in the positioner’s arm we’ve had to repair the structure of the ladder and weld in the missing steps. After this has been done. then we have welded the arm of the positioner to the ladder.

Installation of the new gate on the rock crusher’s deck

The client has clearly communicated the priorities for the new gate. The new gate supposed to be opened with one push of the hand by a climbing operator. Then it should have closed by itself when the operator is on the deck. The gate should have stayed in closed position during wind and should have provided the positive barrier prohibiting falls from the deck. The gate bumper should allow relatively quiet closing.

We have opted for a self closing hinges that are so popular in such situations. In the shop we have fabricated the gate using HSTS of the thickest walls and we custom fabricated the bumper to allow for relatively quiet closing.

Grinding wheel minor reconditioning

The client has been aware that we have a technological capability in the shop of resurfacing crushing wheels using GMAW, and using SMAW withing our mobile welding service. As the client has already planned the reconditioning the crushing wheels next year and has opted against the removal of crushing wheels the only option was to patch the minor damages with SMAW using our surfacing rods.
