After many years of searching and preparation, I have finally managed to buy a traditional welding shop on industrial large lot in beginning of August 2024. Two of my companies will conduct business operation there: JW Portable Welding & Repairs and JW Investrade Inc. After many months of renovation including structural work, electrical, plumbing and security system the shop is now open for business. Our welding shop in Lucan will support our mobile welding and portable welding with small fabrication and precision fabrication. Mainly, however, this shop will support transportation, farming, heavy equipment repair, aluminum trailer repairs and recreational boat industries with our advanced aluminum fabrication. Most importantly we will offer innovative product weldments in this shop since we have plenty of parking there and the shop is large enough to handle the heavy equipment welding.
The JW Investrade Inc. will fabricate their grating for vehicular traffic there too. They produce also drain covers and trench covers as well as more advanced fabricated components. Moreover, JW Investrade Inc. will lead us in skilled trades development towards hydraulic and pneumatic projects. Some projects will also require electronic / electrical support.
You can contact us and send multiple images of your project. You can also text us images and send us videos with your verbal explanation on the phone number provided there. After we do an excellent job, please leave the 5 stars review of our service.
Our commercial sign provides probably the best description of the shop’s specialization.

In more simplified terms our welding shop allows us to provide “in shop” welding services for clients with large and heavy equipment. We specialize in heavy equipment repairs and recently we have opened aluminum trailers repair. However it also offers our clients technologies not available to them in other welding shops. These technologies combined with our advanced welding procedures make our repairs much stronger. Stronger repairs translate to longer utilization of equipment. Please remember, all projects are scheduled, and you must contact us here to schedule your project.
We have experienced inflationary prices for many years now. Prices for farming equipment, semi-trucks, soil moving and excavating equipment, cranes, logging equipment almost double in last 7-8 years. With prices so high not many owners can afford new expensive equipment. Therefore many owners tend to repair what they already have.
However, the repairs on this slightly older equipment have become more complicated and often more advanced welding technology is needed. This more advanced technology’s goal is to increase the utilization time of the old equipment as much as is possible. Nobody knows when the owner will afford to buy a new equipment.
JW Portable Welding & Repairs has been cooperating with number of engineering firms that are involved in cranes repair and other heavy equipment repairs for years now. We contribute to welding procedures modifications and also we recommend different welding joint structures to eliminate potential future damages. We tend identify cracks with in-house Magnetic Particle Testing. This procedure helps us to define the root cause of crack formation and direction of crack development.
Our recommendations differ pending on characteristic of damaging force. The high amplitude and low vibration or low amplitude and high vibration receive different recommendations. Moreover, our recommendations focus on structural improvements of damaged by cracks material and welds. And may include unusual shape joint preparation, highly modified welds, welds from different alloys, stiffeners, and “fishplates”. We usually take upon ourselves to fabricate stiffeners and “fishplates”.
Our step by step conduct and payment terms are in the middle and at the end of this page.
We ask our clients to come to our welding shop if their equipment is heavily damaged. Within our mobile welding services we still weld small and medium size cracks in client’s shop or on-site. However, if the damages are too extensive and we would have to work more than one day on client’s equipment, we will recommend coming to our welding shop.
We also recommend coming to the shop if your repair involves custom stiffeners and “fishplates”. The highly customized stiffeners and “fishplates” must follow the contour of your equipment. Therefore, we need our supportive equipment to produce them.
Additionally, if you have equipment structure or components made from any cast or unusual alloy, we would prefer to do the repair in shop. Same applies to crack that is surrounded by electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic components.
We have developed technologies to weld cracks in heavy equipment such as cranes, farming equipment, semi-trucks and semi-trailers, variety of construction equipment, soil excavation equipment, and logging equipment.

These cracks range from surface cracks in heavy material to cracks causing complete material separation. The large cracks causing material separation with large gaps cause complete structural failure of your equipment. The equipment with structural failure must go through proper alignment procedures prior welding of these cracks. We successfully weld cracks in steel and steel alloys in material of different thicknesses and different shapes.
More importantly, we use variety of high tensile rods to weld cracks under constant temperature. The constant temperature last throughout the whole welding procedure. Often we use custom “fishplates” to strengthen the welded crack and divert the damaging forces to different location. The Magnetic Particle Testing, contour of equipment, and characteristic of the damaging force affects shape of “fishplate”.
Aside of cracks in material, we repair cracks in welds. Cracked welds are very popular in any type of equipment. They signify areas in machinery or equipment that is under stress. We tend to remove the damaged weld completely. If the weld is long or very long, we will ask you to come to the our welding shop too.
The removal of a long weld is time consuming and the surrounding material could be under stress therefore it will be better to do it in our shop.
We also tend to increase size of cracked weld by at least 1/8 and implement some other stress redirecting techniques. Therefore we will need to use a more controlled environment of our welding shop.
Additionally, if the process of welding will require removal some heavy components from client’s equipment then definitely we will recommend to do the repair in our shop.
With prices of farm equipment going higher and higher, smart farmers chose replacement of very old equipment with slightly used newer equipment. However, this newer equipment does not accommodate well to the older attachments or components. In such case, you can take advantage of our welding shop.
The shop is located on 0.6 acre of industrial lot and there is plenty of parking space in front of the shop and on both sides. We definitely can accommodate your tractor with the additional attachment being modified there. The proximity of both equipment standing side by side will make the modification much easier and faster.
Leaving the equipment on our premises will make scheduling easier for us. Please understand that we could be in the middle of some other project and we won’t be able to approach your project right away.
We fabricate custom safety guards and repair / modify the old safety guards. The new equipment imported from other country to Ontario must meet our safety standards and it needs custom safety guards. It is much easier and faster to fabricate and then install a safety guard on client’s equipment in our welding shop than in your shop. You can park your new equipment on the parking lot and we will fabricate the custom safety guard for you much faster than in your shop.
Many safety guards are not mounted on the equipment, but surround the working equipment forming walls disallowing the access of employees. We have 3 large welding tables inside the shop to fabricate the new guards for you.
Welding shops are disappearing from the urban environment due to high taxes, lack of industrial land, high rent, and complex environmental laws. The high prices of any industrial property makes it almost impassible to own it. Small business owners who rent industrial property face increases of rent right after the property owner notices some customer traffic.
The residential clients who are city dwellers come to welding shop with micro projects such as fixing chairs, or patio tables made in China. They do not have bigger needs nor they can afford them.
Construction industry is the only industry employing independent welders and prices are declining. The mobile welding is very challenging in the city with many welders lowering their prices and forgetting the cost of welding machines amortization.
Many welding shops without any specialization face long times without any project due to lack of any demand for their services.
We have developed specializations that do require a welding shop for proper implementation and our clients can afford higher prices for our welding shop services. Our clients are located all over Ontario and JW Portable Welding does not rely on potential customers coming to us from Lucan community. These clients are industrial and commercial companies with strong management teams that understand value of good quality welding.
In fact, these clients have told me to get the shop on a large industrial lot and they will send projects my way. Certainly, the quality of our work proceeds us but marketing of our services is still paramount. The marketing allows us to develop profitable specializations in areas of our interest.
Our welding shop is located about 2 km North of Lucan in Clandeboye Vilage on Hwy 4. We are located on 5558 Clandeboye Dr. in Lucan and the shop is about 200 yards from Hwy 4.

All projects fabricated in our welding shop are transported by us using multiple trailers and then installed also by us. In this way, we control the whole process from beginning to the end.
We support local community by buying locally. Arc-1 Welding Supplies Ltd. is our supplier.
